About Lowry Bay Yacht Club

Lowry Bay Yacht Club has about 200 members with an interest in yachting or boating, although not all own boats.

The clubhouse is at Seaview Marina in Port Road, Lower Hutt. It’s a popular venue for weddings and parties because of its large deck overlooking the marina and sunset, and its two large function rooms, bar, and commercial kitchen. You don’t have to be a member to hire it out.

Becoming a member

There are categories of membership to suit everyone - application forms are here. The club is an incorporated society (no. 215764) and its rules are set out here.

Activities

The club has a busy yacht racing programme, social calendar and fun cruising events for yachts and motor boats all year round, both within the harbour and across to the Marlborough Sounds, and there are organised fishing days too. There are regular quizzes, dinners, parties and cinema evenings, as well as a programme of speakers on things of interest to boaties.

On Friday nights hot meals are available, and members usually gather for dinner and a drink. It’s a good family atmosphere, so bring the kids along (kids’ meals are available too).

When is racing?

Sundays are the regular racing day, with three divisions for serious and less-serious racing throughout spring, summer and winter. We usually have about 25 yachts and trailer sailers out racing. The highlight is the Sail Wellington Regatta in March, and the Rum Regatta in April. In summer there is racing on Friday and Wednesday nights, including long night races. The racing programme includes fully-crewed, single-handed and two-handed series. Yachties are always looking for crew, so if you’re interested, email us on info@lbyc.org.nz or post your interest on our website.

House committee

The House Committee organises all the social events for the club. If you have any ideas or want to help, contact the Rear Commodore, or any of the members:
