Lowry Bay Sports Radio  VHF Ch 62

Lowry Bay Yacht Club Start Box and Clubhouse are equipped with VHF radio. The Start Box is usually staffed during scheduled Club events for ship to shore communications. Channel 62 is generally monitored during harbour events, offshore and out of harbour events.

VHF Channels 62, 74 and SSB 2129 and 4417 kHz

RPNYC is equipped with VHF and MF SSB radios. The Club’s radio station (VHF Channel 62) is manned during programmed races for ship to shore communication. Other channels will be monitored as specified by the Sailing Instructions. The VHF is normally switched on to Channel 62 during office hours.

PNAR is a company formed by three yacht clubs in Wellington (RPNYC, LBYC and EBY&MBC) which operates a maritime VHF radio repeater from Mt Kaukau, Wellington. Extensive VHF communications are provided for recreational and commercial marine operators within the Wellington, Palliser, Marlborough, Cook, D’Urville and Kapiti areas.

Wellington Harbour Radio maintains a 24-hour listening watch on this channel.
Persons wishing to use Channel 62 are required to pay an annual fee as follows: Private: $15 Commercial: $25
Members of the three clubs are requested to pay via their club. Non- members can pay by contacting RPNYC.

COBAR RADIO (Wellington Fishermen’s Radio)
ZMH 28

Cobar Radio can maintain contact with vessels travelling up the Wairarapa Coast as far as Bare Island, to Banks Peninsula, and on the West Coast from Cape Farewell to Cape Egmont. Prior arrangement to establish contact would be appreciated. The operator provides up to date weather information both from forecasts and vessels in the area.

Cobar Radio operates on the following Channels:
VHF Channels: 01, 03, 04, 16, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 74.
SSB Channels: 2182, 2045, 2089, 2129, 2444, 2480, 4125, 4146, 4417, 6215, 6218, 6224, 6227, 8221, 8294, 8297.
Watch Keeping Hours: 0500-2200hrs daily on VHF Channels 04 & 62.

Scheduled Headphone Watch and Call-up Weather Broadcast times:
Stephens, Cook, Castlepoint, Conway and Abel:

Channels 01, 03, 04, 62, 66 - 0515 and 0745hrs daily.
Cook, Castlepoint and Conway:
Channels 03, 04, 62 - 1845hrs daily.

Wellington Harbour Radio (Beacon Hill Station)
VHF Channels 04, 14, 16, 62

Located on Beacon Hill overlooking the entrance to Wellington Harbour, Beacon Hill Radio is operated by the Wellington Regional Council, Harbours Department. The station operates 24 hours a day. The Channel 04 repeater is sited above Cape Palliser, and gives excellent VHF coverage up the East Coast to about Castlepoint and back into Wellington Harbour.

Weather and Navigation Warnings:
Wellington Coastguard Radio holds current weather forecasts and navigation warnings for the Cook Strait and D’Urville areas, and will pass on as required.

Marlborough Marine Radio Association
VHF Channels 01, 04, 63, 65, 66
This association operates VHF repeater stations in the Wellington/Marlborough region, providing an extensive VHF communications network for recreational and commercial marine operators.
VHF Channels operated by the association are as follows:
Channel Coverage
01 Most Areas.
04 Abel Tasman area
63 Queen Charlotte Sound, Kapiti, Wellington South Coast.
65 Pelorus Sound, Northern Cook Strait.
66 Most areas (for commercial use, encoder required).
Any person wishing to use the above channels will be required to pay a yearly fee.

Schedules: 0840 hrs, 1820-hrs.

Any person wishing to use the above channels will be required to pay a yearly fee. Visiting boaties are encouraged to make a $10 donation.
