Winter series
Let's hope the third race in the series this Sunday 6 July is better wind conditions than the last one, where winds blew up to 50 knots and only 12 boats finished. There were several ripped sails, a broken boom, and a compressed mast. Don't forget this Sunday's race is hosted by Lowry Bay, so expect a packed clubhouse. Note sailing instructions now allow a start from the two land based starting lines for Port Nicholson and LBYC. Amended instructions are under 'updates', right.
New flag appointments
The following positions were confirmed at the AGM for the coming year: Geoff Thorn (Commodore); Judy Lymbery (Vice Commodore); Bob Rowell (President); and Romain Busby (Rear Commodore).

the 1000 nautical mile Auckland to Noumea race. Twelve boats left 1400hrs Saturday,
several suffered storm damage in 8m waves and 50 knot winds on Sunday night off Bay
of Islands, three pulling out. After four days of rough seas and strong northerlies,

Working bee for the roof
The Executive has now decided on the tender to replace the roof. After a careful examination of all of the options, it was decided to replace the roof with Zincalume. Properly primed and topcoated, this should last 20 – 25 years. But it does also mean that volunteers will be required to assist with preparing the roofing iron with primer on both sides. The roof will then be installed and we will need a further working bee to paint the topsides in situ. Watch this space for details on the dates of the working bees.
